A magnitude 4.2 earthquake shook eastern Turkey today, Turkish private television CNN-Turk reported, citing the European Mediterranean Seismological Center.

According to the Turkish Directorate for Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD), the quake had a magnitude of 4.1 and occurred in the area of ​​the town of Karloova, Bingöl district. Apart from this district, the quake was also felt in the nearby districts of Erzurum and Erzincan.
The earthquake was registered at 12.48 Turkish time /11.48 Bulgarian time /. The outbreak was at a depth of 6.96 kilometers.

The quake briefly caused panic among the local population.
