The United States registered at least 1.13 million new cases of coronavirus in a day, which is an absolute world record at a time when the spread of highly contagious Omicron shows no signs of remission.
The previous record was 1.03 million and was set on January 3. A large number of cases are reported in the United States every Monday, as many states do not provide data over the weekend.
The average daily rate of new infections tripled in two weeks to more than 700,000 cases.
The record for the new cases comes on the same day as the record for the number of hospitalized, which doubled in three weeks, according to a Reuters census, BTA reported.
Another 135,500 new hospitalizations with Kovid-19 were reported yesterday, breaking the previous record of 132,051 set in January last year.
