The number of flood victims in Turkey has risen to 27. More than 1,400 have been evacuated from the worst-hit villages on the country’s Black Sea coast. Dozens of buildings have been destroyed, and it is still being determined whether there are any missing people.
The disaster came on the day authorities announced that after a long struggle, they had taken control of another element – the fires in southern Turkey. Eight people died there and the material damage was severe.
The floods also caused extensive damage. The electricity stopped in more than 300 settlements. In some areas, roads were swept away and rescue teams were lowered by helicopters.
