A partial state of emergency has been declared in the municipality of Velingrad until August 12 due to the large number of forest fires and smoke.
The measure is in force in the area of the State Hunting Farm “Chepino” and the Forestry “Alabak”, as well as in the localities “Bachovitsa” and “Sivek”.
A Disaster Protection Plan of the Municipality of Velingrad, part “Fires” has been put into operation. The movement of people and vehicles in the area of the declared state of emergency is very limited.
The main reasons for the crisis situation are the growing fires in the forest areas and the smoking of part of the territory of Velingrad municipality.
The fire service and forest officials yesterday were engaged in extinguishing a fire that covered more than 1,000 acres. It is mostly peak and is influenced by the strength and direction of the wind. It erupted in a dense and impassable forest.
